21-year-old Code for Cape Town alumni, Mandisa Dlubom joined Responsive Tech as an intern earlier this year and we’re so grateful that she did. We asked her a few questions and her answers reveal why she has been such a good fit and how having her with us has been more than mutually beneficial. What a woman!
The beauty of having international offices is having diverse people in our team. Sam Mernick is the latest addition to our ever-growing family and he hails all the way from the big NYC. His story is priceless.
Hi, Sam here!
Given that I am born and raised in Manhattan, New York City, my experience in Africa has been quite unique.
I joined Responsive because I was looking for the opportunity to join a mission-driven company that was doing global work and where I would be able to make a difference.
Within a couple of weeks of joining the organization, I was on a plane to Cape Town to meet the team as well learn about the culture and technology that are integral to the organization.
During my time in Cape Town, I have matured technically as a software developer, been exposed to the encouraging culture of Responsive, and experienced personal growth as I have pushed myself out of my normal comfort zone.
I have notably benefited from working with talented developers on an expansive project. As my time in South Africa has come to an end, I look forward to my next stage at Responsive as we actively plan to grow our business presence and build up a thriving team in New York City.
I plan to utilize what I have learned while in Cape Town to be an integral part of this process. Outside of work, I have been fortunate to experience some amazing parts of Africa which include: many hikes around Cape Town, visiting Victoria Falls, and road tripping the Garden Route. Though I am sad to leave Cape Town, I am excited about the future and hope to be back soon.
